iTEC and VTCT Response to Covid-19 Outbreak in the UK
The Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak is a fast-paced and fluid situation affecting countries across the world at different rates. iTEC (as part of VTCT) is a multi-national organisation and works with education providers, employers and governments across 52 countries, and is closely monitoring the global situation, putting in place our own measures to support our employees, centres and stakeholders.
We know that the implementation of social distancing and the requirement to close all educational settings has had a profound impact on the delivery and assessment of vocational qualifications affecting many learners.
iTEC is working closely with colleagues at Ofqual and a small expert group of specialist education professionals to develop an approach for vocational and technical qualifications which will be published in the coming days.
As soon as we have the answers we need, we will urgently publish updated information directly to centres and on our websites.
Following the announcement by the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, the UK government have announced a number of social distancing measures, including the closure of schools and colleges.
iTEC as part of VTCT are also issuing guidance to our approved centres in the UK. All iTEC practical and theory examinations scheduled to take place during social distancing measures will be managed via a range of extraordinary and flexible external quality assurance monitoring arrangements. These include, where appropriate, the moderation of pre-exam assessments, remote monitoring of centre-led practical exams, as well as postponements as necessary. All iTEC centres in the UK will be contacted directly by an iTEC Principal Examiner to ensure that contingency alternative arrangements for theory and practical exams are practicable and appropriate in the coming weeks and months.
