Traineeships – Advent Calendar Day 22

Traineeships with VTCT

Traineeships PDF

Today marks Advent Calendar Day 22 and we’re looking at something a little different: our newly revamped Traineeships with VTCT.

A Traineeship is a skills programme that includes a work placement. It lasts for a minimum of 6 weeks to a maximum of 1 year, although most will last for less than 6 months. A Traineeship programme is an excellent way to prepare young people for an apprenticeship or for entry to the labour market.

Training Providers can build a bespoke package, consisting of various elements, including:

  • Employability Skills
  • Functional Skills
  • Vocational Skills
  • Sector-specific technical and professional qualifications

You can find out more in the dedicated area on the VTCT website. We have information for all parties, whether you’re a Training provider, an Employer or a potential trainee, you can find what you are looking for there. There are also some useful links to external sources of information, such as how to find a traineeship.

A Traineeship can also be a stepping stone into an Apprenticeship, or further training.

When you’re thinking about embarking on any programme of education, whether it be from the perspective of teacher or learner, you will want to do your research and will have questions. Download the information sheet on the left to discover more about the VTCT Traineeship opportunities.

One of the first centres to adopt the new Traineeship packages was Realise training. Amber Massey, Head of Sector for Hairdressing, Beauty and Barbering had this to say about them:

“We launched hairdressing and barbering traineeships in October to support young people to gain employment. We wanted to offer 16-18-year-olds a route into real and meaningful work that could open doors to new opportunities such as securing an apprenticeship. Our model gives young people the chance to experience the buzz, excitement and hard-work of a salon or barbershop, whilst completing an industry-recognised level 1 VTCT qualification. We’ve been thrilled to hear that employers and trainees are enjoying their experiences so far and we look forward to delivering even more programmes in 2021!”
