Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the most frequently asked questions regarding the plan for Performance Table Qualifications in the academic year 2020/2021.
General Questions
We recommend registering learners in a timely way, typically within 8 weeks of them starting their qualification. It is important for learners to be registered on qualification for them to be eligible for adaptations.
We also recommend that you review all in progress learners to withdraw any that are no longer at your centre.
We will release a guidance document for centres to support PTQ adaptation and this will contain specific information about the application process for adaptation.
We will communicate to centres once these are available, we expect this to be very soon.
We will process reasonable adjustment requests following the standard process. Please continue to make these applications to support your learners who need them.
We will issue further guidance if needed in due course.
Assessment
Typically, the PTQs have 2 EQA visits each academic year. We expect that due to the changing landscape due to covid-19 these may be held remotely.
Our colleagues in Quality Assurance will share specific information about the EQA process in due course.
We have chosen to make the standardised adaptation at the start of the academic year to ensure that there is parity of assessment for all learners to protect the reliability and validity of the synoptic assessment.
We will of course publish guidance documents for centres once our proposed PTQ adaptations have been approved by Ofqual.
Yes, there are no client requirements which prevent this in these qualifications.
However, the situation is ever-changing and centres will need to adhere to current UK Government advice on close contact services and public health advice.
Exams
Yes. Learners who received an estimated grade last summer are able to re-take the examination or assessment component.
We have our contingency assessment series this autumn to support learners wishing to re-take a component or complete their qualification.
This is an important question to emphasise the difference for these high stakes PTQ qualifications.
Unfortunately, centres will not be able to use platforms such as Zoom to complete remote invigilation. All requests for remote invigilation will need to be approved before centres can start to use this method.
Centres will submit an application requesting approval to implement remote invigilation for external examinations.
The application will require centres to demonstrate that they have ensured that all learners have access to technology to support the online platforms/systems and that no learner will be disadvantaged due to their socioeconomic circumstances or geographical location.
If this is not possible, then we will be able to support the centre with other existing flexibilities within our adaptation toolkit.
