GDPR is coming: Have you opted in?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force on 25th May 2018 and will be applicable in the UK regardless of Brexit.

The Government are committed to updating and strengthening data protection laws through the new data protection bill. As part of this bill, it will become easier to withdraw consent for the use of personal data and allow the public to ask for their data to be erased from companies’ databases.

As an Awarding Organisation, data controller and processor, it is VTCTs duty of care to ensure all of its centres, employers and training providers are up to date with latest regulations. It is important to note that you shouldn’t keep any data that you don’t need, and if you do have someone else’s data ensure you have proof of consent.

If you’d like to opt in to VTCT and iTECs marketing material, you can opt in here. If you are currently subscribed and don’t re-opt in, we will have to remove your details from our database.

If a company is not compliant with GDPR, it could result in a fine of up to €20 million (£17 million) or four percent of worldwide revenue, whichever figure is higher.
