ITEC Frequently Asked Questions

Below are some frequently asked questions that might help you with your enquiry. As always if you need specific help please contact us on: +44(0)20 8994 4141 or via email at

We have received some enquiries regarding the changes to the ITEC Level 3 Certificate in Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology for Complementary Therapies (QCF - QAN 600/5510/8). We have put together some FAQ’s which will also be posted on our website as follows:

Q: Will this affect what my tutors have to teach?

A: Your teaching staff will already be covering all the Learning Outcomes for the qualification therefore there is no change to your curriculum.

Q: Do these changes to the test specification affect the Learning Outcomes?

A: All the Learning Outcomes are unchanged - pathologies have always been a criteria to achieve the learning outcome’s. ITEC is looking for evidence of basic knowledge and recognition of the main diseases and disorders in the body as outlined in the syllabus mainly because they could be contraindicated to treatment. This is the context of the knowledge required and has not changed.

Q: Do these changes to the test specification affect the Syllabus?

A: The Syllabus is unchanged - diseases and disorders that could affect the key systems of the body have always been listed in the syllabus. Therefore your curriculum is unchanged.

Q: Has the assessment method changed?

A: The method of assessment of multiple choice questions (MCQ) is unchanged.

Q: Is the format and level of the questions the same?

A: The same style of questions will be used at the appropriate level, 1 question, 1 key and 3 distractors.

Q: Are the ITEC recommended learning materials the same?

A: The same learning materials are recommended.

Where can I find out the syllabus, candidate guidance notes, case study info?

All qualification information is available by UK Qualifications , International Qualifications then select the course you are interested in.

Can you tell me if my qualifications can be used for APL/RPL?

You can do a thorough mapping of the completed qualification against the learning outcomes of the units that you are requiring ITEC to rpl and forward with the registration/enrolment form. You can enclose the certificate or diploma if the units are the same as the units of the ITEC certificate or diploma.

The general rule is that RPL will most likely be accepted for any equivalent unit's accredited at the same level on a qualifications framework containing similar learning outcomes. Certifications will not be accepted where they have been issued by training providers, Associations or manufacturer's where there is no Government accreditation or external quality assurance involved. However you may be able to exempt your learners from re-studying some of the learning outcomes once you have established the level and depth of any previous learning that has taken place, and allow them to only take the exams at the end.

Please remind your learners that where RPL is granted a pass mark of 60% is entered onto the ITEC system (as ITEC did not undertake the previous assessment) and may affect the overall aggregate mark.
